Charles Le Corbusier was born as Charles-edouard Jeanneret-Gris in La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the canton of Neuchatel in the North-Western Switzerland, in 1887.
He adopted his pseudonym in 1920 reminiscent of his grandfather’s name. Early on showed his interest in art, and he attended the art school of La-Chaux-de-Fonds. As a young man, Le Corbusier traveled through many Countries in Europe, where he studied architecture and met other architects. Le Corbusier was also his artistic interests. From 1918 to 1922, he took a break from the architecture and concentrated on painting and the purist theory before he dealt with urban planning and developed solutions for the ever growing urban population.
